Spiders Earn Academic Honors From GCAA

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond Spiders received a pair of honors when the Golf Coaches Association of America announced its annual academic awards this week. Rising senior Zack Justice was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar and the entire Richmond team was one of 129 Division I programs recognized as a GCAA All-Academic Team.Â
As one of 266 Division I student-athletes named a GCAA All-America Scholar, Justice had to record a stroke average under 76.0 and participate in at least half of the Spiders competitive rounds during the season. He also had to maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. Justice, who averaged 75.8 strokes in his 16 competitive rounds in 2018-19, is the second Spider to make the team in the last four years, joining Keegan Hoff in 2017. Only juniors or seniors are eligible for the All-America Scholars Team.Â
Each member of the team contributed to Richmond's recognition as a GCAA All-Academic Team, an honor bestowed on teams who record a combined team GPA of 3.0 or better during the academic year. The Spiders have been named an All-Academic Team in eight of the last 10 seasons.Â
