DAVIDSON, N.C. – Freshman Lou Baker secured his first career top-10 finish as the Spiders concluded play at the River Run Collegiate on Tuesday. A day after shooting two rounds under par, Baker carded a four-over 76 on a difficult layout in the third and final round to finish the tournament at even par, tied for seventh in the 88-man field.
"It was really nice for Lou to get his first top 10 finish," said coach Adam Decker. "I know he fees like he left shots out on the course today but he will learn from this for his next final round."
As a team, the Spiders shot 307 (+19) in the third round to finish the 54-hole event at 901 (+37), 10th in the field of 15. "It was a tough final round for us, but I feel like we will learn from the struggle today," said Decker. "I felt good about our plan for the course, we just need to execute a little better."
In his season debut, junior Michael Baker (no relation to Lou) shot rounds of 78-74-76 to finish at 228 (+12), tied for 44th in the field. Sophomore Carter Cook, playing as an individual, shot Richmond's lowest round of the day on Tuesday, carding a two-under 70. Cook's round was the third-lowest of any player in the field and moved him up 28 places on the leaderboard, into a tie for 44th.
After playing in back-to-back weeks, Richmond will take a break from competition next week before returning to the course on October 7th at the Hamptons Intercollegiate at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton, N.Y.
