Helbling Breaks Women’s Track Program Record in the 500m at ECAC/IC4A Championship

BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Richmond women's track and field team reached the podium four times and broke a program record on the final day of the 2020 ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships Sunday at Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
Sophomore Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.) broke the Richmond program record in the 500-meter run, turning in a time of 1:12.13 to eclipse junior Brooke Fazio's (Basking Ridge, N.J.) 2018 mark of 1:12.74. Helbling finished second in her heat and third overall.
Senior Maria Acosta (Maywood, N.J.) took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.19.
In the mile, senior Claire Brown (Erie, Pa.) placed third with a time of 4:49.93. Junior Caroline Robelen (Glen Allen, Va.) and freshman Lily Snow (Richmond, Va.) finished ninth and tenth, respectively.
Spider quartet of sophomore Kendra Smither (Richmond, Va.), sophomore Tamar Accius (Jacksonville, Fla.), Brown and freshman Kate McAndrew (Denville, N.J) worked together to post a time of 11:50.39 to finish third. Smither turned in a time of 3:36.84 in the 1200-meter leg, as Accius took over for the 400-meters with a split of 57.21. Brown ran the 800-meter leg in 2:14.42 before McAndrew turned in a personal best in the 1600-meter with a time of 5:01.94.
Men's cross country junior Trey Burleson (Moseley, Va.) took seventh in the mile with a new personal best time of 4:09.62.
