Baker, Childress Named All-America Scholars

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Michael Baker and sophomore Michael Childress were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America this week. In order to be selected, a golfer must compete in at least 40 percent of his team's competitive rounds while posting a stroke average under 76.0 and maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or better. Only sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible.

Childress led the Spiders with a 74.00 stroke average as a sophomore in 2019-20, nearly a full stroke improvement from his freshman season. He recorded his first career top-10 finish at the Hamptons Intercollegiate in October, shooting 227 (+11) in difficult weather conditions to finish tied for seventh.

Baker competed in five events for the Spiders in 2019-20, posting a stroke average of 75.80. He recorded his highest finish of the season at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, tying for 32^nd. This is Baker's second academic honor of the week after he was one of six Richmond Spiders named to VaSID Academic All-State team on Monday.

Baker and Childress were high school teammates at Cannon School in Concord, N.C. 2020 is the first year the Spiders have had multiple golfers named to the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars Team since 2013, when Nick Austin and Daniel Austin were honored.
