Ekert named A-10 Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. -- Freshman Cole Ekert has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Friday. Ekert, a native of Chatham, N.J., placed 15th in the field of 84 at the River Run Collegiate in Davidson, N.C. last week.

Playing as an individual in his first collegiate event, Ekert opened with a 1-under 71 in Round 1 and followed it up with an even-par 72 in Round 2. Playing in steady wind and rain in Round 3, Ekert shot 77 (+5) to finish the event at 220 (+4). Ekert's finish was second-best among Spiders, trailing only sophomore Garrett Clark, who tied for ninth at 218 (+2).

Ekert is the second Spider to win a weekly Atlantic 10 honor so far this season. Clark was named A-10 Golfer of the Week last week.

Richmond will return to the course on October 11-12 at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic in Duluth, Ga.
