Spiders Tied For 7th After 36 Holes at Georgia State Invitational

DULUTH, Ga. -- The Richmond Spiders men's golf team shot rounds of 287 (-1) and 293 (+5) in Rounds 1 and 2 of the Georgia State Invitational Monday at Berkeley Hills Country Club and is tied for seventh place with 18 holes remaining. Richmond enters Tuesday's final round at 580 (+4), tied with Samford for seventh in the 15-team field. The Spiders are four shots behind three teams tied for fourth at 576 (E) and 10 shots behind first-place Lafayette (570, -6) as the top 10 teams are separated by just 11 shots.Â
"We are definitely within striking distance of the leaders," said Richmond coach Adam Decker. "We're not going to change our approach for tomorrow -- we just need to get a couple more putts to drop."
A pair of Spiders will enter the final round in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. Junior Ben Cooper and sophomore Garrett Clark are tied for 19th in the field of 87 at 144 (E) after shooting identical rounds of 71 (-1) and 73 (+1) Monday. Clark played the Berkeley Hills' par 3s in 2-under par, tied for third-best in the field.Â
Senior Michael Childress and junior Lou Baker are two shots back at 146 (+2), tied for 34th place. Childress shot 73 (+1) in Rounds 1 & 2, while Baker birdied carded a 72 (E) Monday morning and a 74 (+2) Monday afternoon.Â
Freshman Cole Ekert shot 74-77/151 (+7) and is tied for 54th.Â
