RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond head women's track and field coach Lori Taylor has announced the schedule for the Spiders 2021-22 indoor and outdoor season.
"It's exciting to see a full slate of events on the indoor and outdoor schedules following a year where the pandemic caused chaos to all sports competitions," Lori Taylor said. "Our 2021-22 dates provide us with a strong schedule that offers our student-athletes quality competitions at the highest level in the country. We are also looking forward to hosting the Fred Hardy Invitational again next March, which has become one of the highlights of our early spring season attracting schools from across the Eastern United States."
Richmond will be heading to 10 indoor events, starting with the CNU Holiday Open on December 5. In the new year, the Spiders will also compete at the Clemson Invitational (Jan. 14-15) and the Liberty Brant Tolsma Invitational (Jan. 21-22). The squad will wrap up January at the Boston John Thomas Terrier Classic and VMI Relays on the 28th and 29th.
In February, the Spiders will compete at the Virginia Beach East Coast and Camel City Invitationals on the 5th before heading to the Virginia Wesleyan at Virginia Beach on the 6th. Richmond will also compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, Ma., March 5-6, before heading to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, March 9-10, in Birmingham, Ala.
After a brief break, the Spiders will open the nine-event outdoor season hosting the Fred Hardy Invitational at Robins Stadium, March 18-19, for the first time in two years due to COVID precautions. The team will close out a busy March competing at the Raleigh Relays at NC State (24th-26th).
April will see the Spiders send competitors to the Colonial Relays and the Florida Relays April 1-2, before heading to Durham, N.C., for the Duke Invitational (April 8-9). April 14-16, the Spiders will head to the Mount SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Richmond will head to Charlottesville twice, first for the Virginia Challenge (22-23) then closing out the month at the Virginia Grand Prix on the 30th. The season will wrap up at the 2022 NCAA Track and Field Championships June 6-9 in Eugene, Ore.
The men's cross country team will compete in the USA Cross Country Championships in San Diego, Calif., on January 8. The squad will also compete in a selection of indoor meets, as well as Collegiate Running Association National Championship events.
"We will once again travel to the U.S. Cross Country Championships to be held in San Diego, California in January and we'll have the chance to compete in the Collegiate Running Association National Championship events throughout the year," said Steve Taylor, men's cross country head coach. "The combination of these NCAA, USATF and Collegiate Running Association events and locations provides the opportunity, especially for our men's program, to have a year around national championship events on our calendar."
