Women’s Track Collects Two Victories at East Coast Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The University of Richmond women's track team opened the 2021 indoor season with two victories at the East Coast Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Senior Brooke Fazio (Basking Ridge, N.J.) won the 800-meter with a time of 2:08.81, about 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Her time leads the Atlantic 10 and is also 24th in the country.
As the only Spider competing in two events today, junior Kayla Woods (Wilmington, Del.) collected first-place in the long jump with a distance of 5.76m. Woods also finished fourth in the 60-meter dash in section 1 with a time of personal best time of 7.85, just behind Olympian Veronica Campbell-Brown.
Sophomore Kamryn Ross (Richmond, Va.) used a time of 9.08 prelim 60m hurdles time to advance into the finals. Ross, in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, turned in a time of 8.97 to take third-place.
In the 400-meter race, junior Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.) took fifth-place overall and was the second collegiate finisher, posting a time of 57.10. Her 2021 debut 400m is the current fastest time in the A-10.
The Spiders return to Virginia Beach for their next competition for the Norfolk State Invite, Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13.
