Spiders, Baker in Contention at Ross Collegiate Classic
03/08/2021 | Men's Golf
"I thought we were a little tight to start," said coach Adam Decker after the Spiders first competitive round in 13 months. "It might have just been getting back into meaningful team golf again, but we really settled down at the start of the afternoon round."
Sophomore Lou Baker, who is competing as an individual, is tied for fourth in the 82-man field at even par after birdieing four of his final five holes Monday. Junior Michael Childress is at 1-over and tied for seventh, having played his first 14 holes of Round 2 at 4-under par following at opening-round 77 (+5). Senior Andrew McInerney is one shot behind at 2-over, tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard.Â
Junior Carter Cook is tied for 21st at 3-over par. Freshman Garrett Clark, making his Richmond debut, is 9-over par and tied for 44th, one shot ahead of sophomore Ben Cooper (+10, T-48th).
Richmond will play the final four holes of the second round on Tuesday morning before starting the third and final round at Mid Pines Golf Club.Â
"The guys were excited to be out competing for the team again," said Decker. "The season always has a flow to it, and not having the fall season means we need to get into the routine a little more quickly. The goal is to get a little better with each event and peak for the conference championship."
