RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond athletic department, in conjunction with the campus' Office of Common Ground and Multicultural Affairs, have announced that former Spider women's basketball student-athlete Jaide Hinds-Clarke has been named the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Leadership Development & Engagement. Hinds-Clarke will work closely with Spider student-athletes on a daily basis providing support and guidance on various topics.
"We are thrilled to welcome back one of our own to the Spider Family," Senior Associate Athletic Director for Leadership & Student-Athlete Development Lauren Wicklund said. "Jaide's contributions as a student-athlete were felt throughout campus and the opportunity to bring her back in this capacity will provide necessary resources and support to enhance the student experience at the University of Richmond."
In her new role, Hinds-Clarke will assist with all aspects of the student-athlete experience and campus life with a focus on initiatives pertaining to diversity, equity, inclusion, LGBTQ support and student engagement. The position will research, plan, and coordinate programming that directly supports student welfare and development.
"From the moment I arrived on campus as a student-athlete I knew that the University of Richmond was special and I am honored to remain a part of the Spider family," Hinds-Clarke said. I would like to thank John Hardt, Lauren Wicklund and LaRee Sugg for this opportunity. I am grateful to be able to give back to a place that has given so much to me over the years. I am looking forward to working with student-athletes, coaches, staff, and faculty, to continue to develop leaders on and off the playing field."
In her position, Hinds-Clarke will advise and support students of color, LGBTQ, women, affinity groups and special populations on campus and in Spider Athletics. She will assist with the creation and implementation of special programming surrounding LGBTQ, Spiders Lead and Spiders United for Change.
"We are excited to have Jaide as part of the team," Lee Dyer Associate Director of LGBTQ Campus Life said. "Jaide brings an expertise and love to the work that will help many students under the LGBTQ umbrella find their sense of belonging through programs and services she will lead. Her commitment to intersectional work is exciting to see unfold."
Hinds-Clarke was a four-year letterwinner for Spider women's basketball where she was an active student-athlete on campus. She was honored with the 2020 Civic Engagement Award on campus, the 2019 Service for Change Award and the 2019 LGBTQ Black and Bold Award during her career.
Hinds-Clarke has spent the past year as a graduate assistant in the Spiders Leadership Development program while working on her masters of sport leadership at VCU.
