RICHMOND, Va. -- Muskan Uppal, Emily Ward, and Wenqi Vicky Zhu have been named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for their accomplishments on the course and in the classroom during the 2020-21 season. The trio each maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better while competing in all six of Richmond's events this spring. 2021 is the first year in program history the Spiders have had three WGCA All-American Scholars.Â
Ward, a rising senior who was also an All-American Scholar in 2019 and 2020, joins Lauren Folgosa (2007-09) as the only Spiders to ever be named WGCA All-American Scholars three times. She ranked second on the team with a stroke average of 76.31 this spring and finished tied for fourth at April's Patriot League Championship, earning First Team All-Patriot League honors.Â
Uppal, a rising junior, was named an All-American Scholar for the second straight season. She finished in the top 30 in all three of Richmond's full-field events in the spring, including a tie for 13th at the Kingsmill Spring Intercollegiate and a 14th-place finish at the Patriot League Championship.Â
Zhu, also a rising junior, recorded her best finish of the season at the Patriot League Championship, shooting 75/79/81/235 (+19) to finish in 10th place and earn Second Team All-Patriot League honors. This is her first selection to WGCA's All-American Scholar Team.Â
2021 is the first year Richmond has had three WGCA All-American Scholar selections and the third straight year the Spiders have had multiple selections. In 2020, Uppal and Ward were named to the All-American Scholar Team. Ward and Lizzie Reedy were named to the team in 2019. Â
