
Wheeler & Hall Earn Phil Steele All-America Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond linebacker Tristan Wheeler (Bethlehem, Pa.) earned All-America honors from Phil Steele while cornerback Aamir Hall (Baltimore, Md.) earned Freshman All-America accolades Tuesday. Additionally, seven different Spiders were named to Phil Steele's All-Colonial Athletic Association Teams.
Wheeler was named Fourth Team All-America by Phil Steele, earning his third All-America honor of the year (HERO Sports & Stats Perform). He earned First Team All-CAA honors this year after leading the entire CAA in tackles in the regular season and ranked eighth in the nation with 114 tackles, averaging 10.4 tackles per game. He added six tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions in the Spiders' final three games on the year. All Wheeler has done since stepping on campus is make plays as he has 256 tackles in 27 career games. He has started 24-straight games and has posted 228 tackles in his last two full season (2019, 2021).
Wheeler has been named All-CAA in each of his first three seasons. The 2019 CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection in the spring season and the fall. Wheeler was named Second Team All-America in the spring season and earned First Team Freshman All-America honors in 2019 when he was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award given to the top freshman in NCAA FCS Football.
Hall was named Third Team Freshman All-America by Phil Steele. He started all 11 games in the fall season at cornerback, leading the team with 12 pass breakups. He ranked third on the team with 60 total tackles, including 34 unassisted tackles.
Hall ranked fourth in the CAA in pass breakups with 12, leading all redshirt freshmen or true freshmen in passes defended. He recorded his first career interception against No. 9 Villanova this fall while also adding 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
The Spiders placed three on Phil Steel's First Team All-CAA in Wheeler, Tyler Dressler (Covington, Va.) and Kobie Turner (Clifton, Va.). Four earned Second Team All-CAA accolades in Clayton McConnell (Foley, Ala.), Tim Coleman (Stone Mountain, Ga.), Darius Reynolds (York, Va.) and Aaron Dykes (Knoxville, Tenn.).
