O'Connell, Stockman Earn A-10 Weekly Honors

Newport News, Va.— Spiders track and field freshman Elizabeth Stockman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and junior Kayla O'Connell (Marshfield, Mass.) has been named this week's Atlantic 10 Track & Field Rookie and Track Performers of the Week, as announced by the conference Wednesday.
Stockman and O'Connell helped the Spiders set a new school record in the DMR at Friday's JDL DMR Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. when the squad of O'Connell, Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.), Brooke Fazio (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Stockman ran a 11:21.53 on the 200-meter flat track to break the previous record of 11:23.61 set in 2013.
O'Connell ran the opening 1,200 leg of the Richmond DMR with a 3:29.66 split, while Stockman ran the anchor leg 1600 with a 4:49.43 to help claim the new record. For ranking purposes, the mark on the 200m, flat track will be listed as 11:14.13 and at the time it was ran, ranked #17 in the NCAA and is nearly a minute faster than the next closest A-10 competitors.
The Spiders now turn its attention to the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships next week, Feb. 25-26 at George Mason.
