Dr. Judy Hopkins & Tim Finchem Named Alumni Achievement Award Winners

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond athletic department and Spider Performance Development (SPD) will host the annual Spider Athletics Alumni Achievement Award Saturday, honoring two very distinguished Spider alumni in Dr. Judy Hopkins and Tim Finchem at the Jepson Alumni Center. Due to COVID-19 restrictions on campus, the ceremony is a invite-only event.
The Spider Athletics Alumni Achievement Award is awarded to one male student-athlete alumnus and one female student-athlete alumna that have earned distinction in their professional careers. The award recognizes alumni for their leadership aptitude and contributions to their professions, while upholding the highest values of Spider Athletics. The recipients of this award represent the very best of our alumni and become role models for current Spider student-athletes.
Dr. Hopkins was a three-sport student-athlete for the Spiders in basketball, field hockey and lacrosse. She earned her doctoral degree from Virginia and he clinical interest include the treatment of breast cancer, breast cancer prevention, genetics, survivorship and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. She has served as the chairwoman of the SCOR Cancer Care Delivery Research, as a member of the NCI Breast Oncology Local Disease (BOLD) task force and was a member of the NCI symptom management/quality of life steering committee.
Finchem came to Richmond on a debate scholarship. After graduation, he had a decorated career in the PGA Tour where he became the third PGA Tour Commission if program history. Under Finchem's 22-year tenure as PGA Tour Commissioner (1994-2016), prize money skyrocketed to more than $400 million on six tours when he retired. He created signature events in today's game, including the FedEx Cup and FedEx Cup Playoffs, the President's Cup and the World Golf Championships.
