Spider Athletic Fund Spotlight - Mike Copley
3/16/2022
What inspires you to give to the Spider Athletic Fund?
My four years at UR were awesome and I received a tremendous education, met great people and was fortunate enough to play Division 1 football. The value from my education paid terrific dividends throughout my career in financial services and this should not be taken for granted nor forgotten. Additionally, we fully support the football and basketball programs and all Spider sports, with our family and friends. These traditions and memory building moments have been and will continue to be a wonderful experience for us!

If you could have dinner with one Spider student-athlete or coach from the past or present who would it be and why?
My two position coaches from my years playing football, Dick Lage and Tommy Throckmorton along with Jeff Hanson. These guys had a great influence on my not only as an athlete, but as a person and it would be awesome to see how their lives played out.
If you could give a current student-athlete one piece of advice, what would it be?
Work harder than you did as an athlete, stay true to yourself and maintain the highest of personal integrity and credibility, drive for results, ask for help and don't be afraid to fail!!!

If you were speaking to other alumni or fans, why would you encourage them to also support the Spider Athletic Fund?
If alums thought about their experiences during their UR tenure and asked themselves the question, what did I learn and did it prove valuable to me in my personal/professional life and the answer is YES, then their participation in the advancement of our University, its community, students and student/athletes is something all should consider and hopefully contribute to this success.
