STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Freshman Cole Ekert shot back-to-back rounds of 73 (+2) on the first day of Penn State's Rutherford Intercollegiate and is tied for 22nd in the field of 78 with Sunday's final round remaining.

As a team, the Spiders are 14th in the 14-team field at 596 (+28) after combining for a team score of 302 (+18) in Round 1 Saturday morning and 294 (+10) in Round 2 Saturday afternoon. Richmond fared well on the par 5s at Penn State's Blue Course, playing them in 8-under par, tied for third best of any team. But the Spiders struggled on par 3s, carding a combined score of +24, five shots behind any other team.

Ekert is the only Spider in the top 50 on the individual leaderboard. Junior Ben Cooper is tied for 53rd at 150 (+8), and three Spiders are two shots back in a tie for 64th at 152 (+10): senior Michael Childress, junior Lou Baker, and sophomore Garrett Clark.

The Spiders will start their final round at 9:03 AM Sunday on the 10th hole.
