Football Announces FBS Opponents Through 2029

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond football program announced the addition of five games against FBS opponents running from 2025-29, giving the Spiders FBS games for the next seven years.
The Spiders will meet a quintet of programs from the Atlantic Coast Conference beginning at North Carolina in 2025 (Sept. 13), at NC State in 2026 (Sept. 12), at Louisville in 2027 (Sept. 4), at Virginia in 2028 (Sept. 9) and at Pittsburgh in 2029 (Sept. 22).
The Spiders previously announced non-conference games for the next two seasons. Richmond will host Morgan State (Sept. 2) and Delaware State (Sept. 16) while travelling to Michigan State (Sept. 9) in the 2023 season. The Spiders will have four non-conference games on the schedule in 2024, travelling to Virginia (Aug. 31) and Delaware State (Sept. 21) while hosting Wofford (Sept. 7) and Charleston Southern (Sept. 14).
Richmond's trip to Chapel Hill marks the 15th meeting between the two schools but the first meeting since 1978. The Spiders won the last meeting that season, posting a 27-18 victory. Richmond will be making its first trip to Chapel Hill since 1977.
The Spiders have faced off against NC State 20 times in program history, including the last meeting in 2013 when they fell by a 23-21 margin on the road. Richmond picked up a win against the Wolfpack in 1970 at home. The Spiders were conference rivals with both North Carolina and NC State in the Southern Conference from 1936-1952.
The Spiders will be meeting Louisville for only the second time in program history. The teams previously met in 1982 with the Cardinals posting the victory at home. The 2028 season will see the Spiders travel back to Charlottesville, marking the 47th meeting all-time between the programs.
Richmond's trip in 2029 to face Pittsburgh will be the first-ever meeting between the programs. The Spiders were scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh in 2020, but the game was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finally, the Spiders announced the resumption of the VMI series, beginning in 2025 (home) and including games in 2028 (road) and 2029 (home).
