RICHMOND, Va. -- Spiders freshman Drew Carlin has been named the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Friday. Carlin, a native of Ashburn, Va., tied for third at Yale's MacDonald Cup last weekend in his collegiate debut.Â
Carlin shot rounds of 69, 69, and 68 at the par-70 Yale Golf Course to finish at 206 (-4), tied for third among the 72 players in the event. Carlin's finish was the best for a Richmond freshman since 2017, when Andrew Sciarretta and Zack Justice shared runner-up honors at the Atlantic 10 Championship. He was Richmond's low scorer at the event as the Spiders tied for third in the 11-team field at 1061 (+11).Â
This is the second straight year the Spiders have won an A-10 Rookie of the Week honor. Current sophomore Cole Ekert was named A-10 Rookie of the Week three times last season.Â
Carlin and Richmond will return to tournament play at NC State's Wolfpack Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C. on October 15-16.Â
