RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Men's Golf announced the members of its 2024 signing class Monday. Carson Baez from Windermere, Fla. and Tommy Sharps from Timonium, Md. have signed National Letters of Intent with Richmond and will compete for the Spiders next school year.
Baez has led Windermere High School to four straight state championship appearances, four straight district titles, and a pair of regional titles, winning the individual district title himself in 2022 and the regional title in 2023. During the 2023 season, he served as team captain and racked up seven wins in 14 events.
Last June, Baez shot 68-68-69/205 (-11) to win the 74th Annual Press Thornton Future Masters in Dothan, Ala. He has recorded five 10-finishes in AJGA events, including a pair of top-five results.
Junior Golf Scoreboard has rated Baez as high as 48th in the Class of 2024 and fifth in the state of Florida. Baez is ranked in the top 10 percent of his class at Windermere and has performed community service by creating graphics for Windermere and volunteering for US Kids Golf Orlando.
Sharps attends St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, Md., the alma mater of current Spider Lou Baker. He helped St. Paul's to MIAA championships in 2021 and 2022, finishing runner-up on the individual leaderboard in 2022.
On the AJGA, he's registered one top-10 result — at this August's UHY Baltimore Junior — and four top-15 finishes. Sharps earned medalist honors at the 2023 Williamson Cup in Ontario last August, helping Washington Metropolitan Golf Association to a third-place finish in the event. He is Maryland's third-ranked golfer in the Class of 2024.
