A Thanksgiving Message from John Hardt
11/21/2023 | Football, General, Spider Athletic Fund
Season's greetings Spider faithful!
On behalf of the entire Richmond Athletics department, I hope you are making preparations to spend the upcoming holidays with those closest to you. This season offers us an opportunity for rapport, rest, and rejuvenation, and all of us in Richmond Athletics wish you a happy and healthy holiday.
Downtime will have to wait at least another week for the Spider Football program, after the team clinched a share of the CAA championship and a spot in the FCS Playoffs this weekend! It was inspiring to watch the team regroup and rededicate itself after a difficult start to the season. After seeing the smiles on the faces of our players, coaches, and staff as they were presented the CAA championship trophy in the locker room following Saturday's win vs William & Mary, I know how proud they are of what they've accomplished. And I know that Spider Nation is proud as well. I hope you will be able to watch, listen or join us in Robins Stadium as the Spiders open the FCS Playoffs Saturday vs NC Central.
The holidays are also a time for reflection; a time to remove ourselves from our day-to-day scramble and consider our place in the bigger picture. Every time I have the chance to take a step back, I'm astounded by the collective good works of our staff members, coaches, and student-athletes: spreading the thrills and lessons of athletics across our campus and our community; excelling in new areas of scholarship and research; and demonstrating that — even when the odds seem insurmountable — a group of individuals can band together, commit themselves to a common goal, and achieve championship results.
I'm proud to be a Spider. I'm proud to play my part in leading Richmond Athletics and its student-athletes. And I'm proud of the way Spiders everywhere come together to bolster the work we do.
Thank you for supporting the Spiders, and best wishes for a safe and joyful holiday season.
