Spiders Open Indoor Season with Successful Trip to Liberty Kickoff

Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Richmond track & field program opened their 2023-2024 indoor season with a trip to the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg on Friday.
Elke Van der Westhuizen and Alicia Dawson represented Richmond in the 60m with two top-ten performances. Westhuizen took the 9th place finish with a personal best of 7.82 while Dawson took 10th with a personal best of 7.84.
The 200m was highlighted by Elke Van der Westhuizen and Nina Lavelle with two more top-ten finishes. Westhuizen finished 6th at 25.23 as Lavelle finished 9th at 25.64.
The Spiders found success in the 400m with four top-ten performances:
The 1000m was a successful event for Richmond as Kyra Keurentjes crossed the finish line at 2:51.21 for 3rdplace and Caroline Donohoe finished at 2:56.09 for 5th place.
In the 3K, the Spiders found five top-ten performances for the strongest race of the day for the program:
In her first Richmond outing, Alicia Dawson took the 1st place finish in the long jump with a performance of 5.80m. This was her second personal best of the day.
Up next the Spiders will travel to Blacksburg to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational from January 12-13.
