Richmond, Va. — On Saturday, University of Richmond Athletics celebrated the careers of two alumni by honoring Deb Cupp and Eric English with the Spider Athletics Alumni Achievement Award.
The award is given to student-athlete alumni who have earned distinction in their professional careers. The recipients of these awards represent the very best of Richmond alumni and serve as role models for current Spider student-athletes.
A former Spiders field hockey and women's lacrosse player, Cupp would go on to work for numerous Fortune 500 companies before landing with Microsoft. Currently, Deb is the President of Microsoft North America and leads a 10,000-person team that oversees a $58 billion dollar business across the United States and Canada. A collaborative and authentic leader, Deb has left a positive imprint on the collective groups she has overseen.
English was a part of some of the best Spiders basketball teams in the 80's, including the 1988 Sweet Sixteen team. Over the years, Eric has held numerous roles within the community, and now serves as the Henrico County Chief of Police. This past year, Chief English received the NOBLE Civil Rights "Outstanding Law Enforcement Executive Justice by Action" Award for his leadership within the community.
The pair was celebrated with an on-campus awards reception in Spider Hall before being recognized on court during the men's basketball victory over Loyola Chicago.
While Cupp could not be in attendance, field hockey captain Olivia De Cain accepted the award on her behalf.
