Spiders Tied For Fifth at Cutter Creek

SNOW HILL, N.C. — The Richmond Spiders Men's Golf Team is tied for fifth place in a tightly bunched 10-team field following Friday's opening round of the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate. Richmond combined for a team score of 295 (+7) in Round 1, tied with East Carolina. The Spiders are within shouting distance of both second-place Radford (1-over par) and Delaware and Rhode Island, who are tied for eighth at 12-over par.

A trio of Spiders opened the event with 1-over 73s and are tied for 12th: Drew Carlin, Michael Childress, and Patrick Isztwan. Carlin recorded three birdies in a five-hole stretch entering the turn to reach 2-under par before falling back on the inward nine at Cutter Creek Golf Club. Childress offset four bogeys with three birdies en route to his 1-over round. Isztwan was one of five players to make an eagle Friday, recording a three on the 546-yard par 5 11th hole.

Garrett Clark, Ben Cooper, and Cole Ekert all shot 76 (+4) and are tied for 38th.

A pair of Spiders are competing as individuals in Snow Hill. Lou Baker is tied for 21st at 74 (+2) and Alex Campbell is tied for 76th at 87 (+15).

The Spiders team will begin Saturday's second round with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
