PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Spider sophomore Cole Ekert is tied for fourth at the RedHawk Intercollegiate after playing the first two rounds of the event in a combined 2-over par Monday. Ekert held the solo lead after shooting a 2-under par 69 in Round 1 Monday morning and followed it with a 4-over 75 in Round 2 Monday afternoon. Ekert played the par 4s at the Pittsburgh Field Club in a combined 1-under par over the first 36 holes, tied for the best of the 78 golfers in the field.

As a team, the Spiders are in ninth place among 14 teams at 27-over par. Richmond is part of a group of eight teams that are all within nine shots on the team leaderboard, ranging from Toledo in third place at 20-over par to Bowling Green in 10th place at 28-over par.

Richmond made 26 birdies Monday — the third most of any team — but the Spiders were hurt by seven double bogeys or worse.

Drew Carlin is tied for 17th at 5-over par (147) after rounds of 72 and 75. Garrett Clark is tied for 40th at 9-over par, two shots in front of Michael Childress (+11), who is tied for 48th. Ben Cooper is at 15-over par, tied for 65th in the field.

Tuesday's third and final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
