08/02/2023 | Football
Augusta, Ga.— Aaron Trusler is one of 17 names selected to the FCS Punter of the Year Award Preseason Watch List, which honors the nation's top collegiate punter in the FCS.
The Augusta Sports Council, also home to the Ray Guy Award (awarded to the best collegiate punter in the FBS), created the FCS Punter of the Year Award in 2019 to honor the best collegiate punter playing in the FCS. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis placed on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
Last season, Trusler played in all 13 games, punting 53 times for 2,191 yards including a long of 63 yards. He averaged 41.3 yards per punt, stuck 19 inside the 20-yard line and recorded six punts over 50 yards. He was named to last year's FCS Punter of the Year Award Preseason Watch List and was later named a 2022 FCS Punter of the Year finalist.
The FCS Punter of the Year Award winner will be voted on by the FCS Punter of the Year Award/Ray Guy Award Committee and will be announced after regular season play has ended.
The Spiders open the 2023 season Saturday, Sept. 2 at home against Morgan State at 6 p.m. Tickets to the home opener and all six 2023 home games at Robins Stadium can be purchased here.
