LaPiana Nabs First A-10 Rookie of Week Honor This Season

RICHMOND, Va. — Spiders freshman Jack LaPiana has been named the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Saturday. LaPiana made his collegiate debut last weekend at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawleys Island, S.C., shooting a 6-under 210 to tie for 18th in the 80-man field. LaPiana's 6-under total matched the 13th-lowest 54-hole tournament score in program history.
Playing as an individual, LaPiana carded a 2-under 70 in his first collegiate round last Sunday, before following it with rounds of 1-under (71) and 3-under (69) at True Blue Golf Club. LaPiana played the par 3s in a combined 3-under par for the week, tied for fifth-best in the field.
Each of Richmond's last three recruiting classes has produced at least one player to win A-10 Rookie of the Week. Sophomore Drew Carlin was honored in September 2022, and junior Cole Ekert won the award three times during the 2021-22 season.
