Ekert Shares A-10 Golfer of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. — Spider junior Cole Ekert has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Ekert carded rounds of 65 (-7), 69 (-3), and 69 (-3) at last week's VCU Shootout to tie for second in the field at 13-under par (203), the lowest tournament score in Richmond program history. Ekert shared the award with Davidson's Alex Heffner, who also finished second at the event.

This is Ekert's second career A-10 Golfer of the Week award and his first since last February, when was honored for placing second at the Wexford Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. Ekert also won three A-10 Rookie of the Week honors during his freshman season in 2021-22.

Ekert shot out of the gates at the VCU Shootout, recording seven birdies in Round 1 on his way to a career-low 65 (-7), matching the second-lowest round in Richmond history. Ekert followed with back-to-back rounds of 69 (-3) to set a new Richmond scoring record by the narrowest possible margin, finishing just ahead of Daniel Walker's 12-under (204) at the 2013 NCAA Regional in Tallahassee, Fla.

Ekert and the Spiders will return to action on October 15-16 at the Georgetown Intercollegiate in Rockville, Md.
