Multiple Spiders Add to Richmond History Books at Virginia Tech Invitational

Blacksburg, Va. – The University of Richmond track & field program opened the new year with a successful trip to the Virginia Tech Invitational. Dylan Miller and Madison Trippett led the Spiders with event victories in the 800m and the 5K.
Dylan Miller claimed the 1st place victory in the 800m with an impressive finish of 2:18.35. The sophomore held off the junior/senior group from Army West Point, taking the big win over three other competitors.
The 5K proved successful for Richmond as they took the top three spots in the event. Madison Trippett led the group with the 1st place finish at 16:57.78. Elizabeth Stockman (2nd place – 17:35.94) and Laurel Kurtz (3rdplace – 17:54.79) claimed the next two spots.
Alicia Dawson held success through the invitational with strong performances in the long jump (5th place – 5.86m – personal best) and the triple jump (3rd place – 12.47m). Both marks landed her spots in the Richmond history books as her triple jump was the 2nd longest in program history and her long jump tied for 4th in program history.
Gabrielle Cummings also imprinted her mark in the Richmond history books with a 7.78 finish in the 60m, the 10th fastest time of any Spider that has competed for the program. Cummings placed 15th in the event.
Caroline Donohoe added another accolade to program history with the 8th fastest 500m ran in the school's past. At 1:16.30, Donohoe ran a personal best to claim 4th place. Virginia Beringer finished shortly after at 1:16.69, taking 5th place.
Up next, the Spiders will make a day trip to VMI to compete in the VMI Challenge on January 20.
