10/10/2024 | Spider Performance
RICHMOND, Va. — Spiders joined a group of more than 2,000 student-athletes from around the country for The Team's All-Star Virtual Meeting on Tuesday. The nonpartisan voting rights event for athletes, coaches, and administrators celebrated and expanded on the unique impact that athletes can have on campuses, communities, and the future. The event featured student-athletes interviewing sports icons and influencers including NCAA President Charlie Baker, UCLA quarterback Chase Griffin, Former USA volleyball player Cassidy Lichtman, Maryland's Governor Wes Moore, Olympic rower Claire Collins, Seattle Storm's Nneka Ogwumike, and Social Change Fund United Executive Board Member and Phoenix Mercury All-Star Natasha Cloud. More than 100 schools participated.
During the All-Star Meeting, student-athletes heard from speakers who encouraged them to use their platforms to promote positive change and meaningful civic engagement. Student-athletes took time to check their voting registration status and create a voting plan as they enjoyed pizza provided by Pizza to the Polls. The event was a part of Spiders Vote efforts during National Voter Education Week, from October 7-11.
