Voting Takes Center Stage at Millhiser Dialogue Series

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond faculty, University staff, and student-athletes joined Professors Pippa Holloway (History) and Thad Williamson (Leadership Studies) for the Athletic Department's "Voting 2024: From Aspirations to Action" in Spider Hall Friday. The event, part of the the Millhiser Dialogue Series, was hosted by Spider student-athlete moderators Jacob Ellis (Cross Country) and Izzy Blaylock (Cross Country, Track & Field). Ellis and Blaylock facilitated a discussion that explored voting through both historical and contemporary lenses.
Program presenter Bruce Matthews, Richmond's Associate AD for Academic Support and Student Services, noted, "Voting represents the hallmark of our democracy and serves as the primary mechanism through which the people reflect or realize our nation's values."
Audience members were encouraged to consider ways in which the 2024 Election serves as a conduit to connect the people's aspirations to action. Participants asked questions regarding Election 2024 and engaged in dialogue surrounding local and national voting issues and concerns.
Millhiser Dialogue Series is an ongoing series of moderated discussions amongst members of the campus community designed to educate and promote discussion around important issues that resonate across different spaces and places.
