WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team has the honor of highlighting sophomore Mark Taranov as Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Performer of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday. This is Taranov's first weekly honor of his career, and second this season for the Spiders, as Paxton Pritchard picked up Rookie of the Week honors on 1/30/24. Taranov also shares the honor with Matt DeMarco (Dayton).
Tarnov, a Valley Stream, N.Y. native, helped Richmond to two wins over Marquette (W, 7-0) and Dayton (W, 4-3) and remains undefeated on singles court No. 6 with a 3-0 mark on the year. He also posted a lone singles win against VCU Feb. 7, taking Voelzke (VCU) to three sets and winning 6-7, 6-3, 11-9.
Against Marquette, the sophomore downed Vazquez (MU) 6-1, 6-4 on 2/10, and handled business again on court No. 6 against Dore (UD), clinching the win for the Spiders against Dayton, 6(1)-7(7), 7(7)-6(5), 6-4 on 2/11.
Taranov and the 5-1 Spiders look to take on JMU on Feb. 16 in Alexandria, Va. at the Bell Haven Country Club before playing host to Chowan on Feb. 23 at the Westhampton Tennis Complex.
