RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Athletics will honor Eileen Higgins, W'84, and Aubrey Layne, R'79, as the 2024 recipients of the Spider Athletics Alumni Achievement Award during a ceremony Saturday and again at the men's basketball game vs Davidson that evening.
The award is presented annually to one alumnus and one alumna of the University of Richmond for their professional achievements and adherence to the highest values of Spider Athletics.
Higgins is the executive director of Holiday Express in Eatontown, N.J., a nonprofit organization that delivers music, food, gifts, financial support, and friendship to those with the greatest need for "the gift of human kindness" during the holiday season and throughout the year. She has also served as chief executive officer for Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore as part of her 30 years of professional experience in nonprofit business environments, during which time she has developed a record of innovative program development, increasing organizational efficiencies, and developing strong community partnerships. Higgins holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Richmond, where she served as a manager for both the women's lacrosse and field hockey teams.
Layne is the executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Sentara Health, where he oversees the organization's government and legislative affairs, real estate and supply chain, security, compliance, and internal audit and privacy teams. Prior to Sentara, Layne served as Virginia's Secretary of Finance under Governor Ralph Northam, administering the $140 billion biennial state budget, serving as the chairman of the state's Debt Advisory Board, and more. Layne earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in accounting from Richmond, where he was a member of the Spider baseball team.
