Spiders Open Atlantic 10 Championships with Pair of Fourth Place Finishes in Relays

Hampton, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving program ended its first day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships with a pair of 4^th place finishes in the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay.

Katelyn Pennell, Presley Baber, Caroline Weldon and Melissa Nwakalor grouped together in the first event of the tournament, taking the 4^th place finish at 1:40.14 in the 200 medley relay. The UMass squad finished narrowly ahead of the Spiders at 1:40.06, claiming the bronze medal.

Richmond was represented in the 800 free relay by Megan Carson, Katie Chignell, Alexa Connors and Katelyn Pennell. The four Spiders swam hard, adding another 4^th place finish to the Spiders score card with a mark of 7:18.91. The Rams of Fordham barely edged out Richmond, grabbing the 3^rd place finish at 7:18.45.
