Ekert Finishes in Top 20 at Auburn Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. — Spiders junior Cole Ekert tied for 18th among 93 golfers at the Tiger Invitational Tuesday, finishing the 54-hole event at 11-over par (227). Ekert shot rounds of 74, 75, and 78 at the par-72, 7,591-yard Auburn University Club en route to his third straight top-20 tournament finish and his fourth in six events this season.
Ekert's eight birdies were tied for fourth most in the field, and only two players scored better on par 4s than Ekert (+3) during the course of the event. Ekert tied for 13th at the Wexford Intercollegiate last month in Richmond's first stroke-play event of the spring, and tied for eighth in the team's fall finale at the Furman Intercollegiate last October.
As a team, the Spiders placed 12th among 18 teams at 70-over par (934). Freshman Jack LaPiana tied for 32nd at 14-over par (230), 11 shots in front of fellow freshman Quin Polin, who tied for 70th.
Sophomore Drew Carlin tied for 82nd at 29-over par (245), and freshman Parker Moellinger placed 91st 33-over (249) in his competitive collegiate debut.
Richmond will be off for the rest of March, returning to competition at the Any Given Tuesday Collegiate in Pawleys Island, S.C. on April 1-3.
