Richmond, Va. — University of Richmond men's lacrosse standouts Dalton Young and Jake Kapp have been claimed off waivers by a pair of Premier Lacrosse League clubs, with Young going to the Denver Outlaws and Kapp the New York Atlas.
Young was named a Tewaaraton nominee last month during his best season yet where he finished with the second-most points ever by a Spider in a season with 75 (36 goals, 39 assists). Young is second all-time in career points for the Spiders with 261 (146g, 115a).
Young, a four-time all-conference selection and back-to-back Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year honoree recorded a point in 59 of 65 career games and was one of only a handful of active players with a 55+ game point streak. He became the fastest player in program history to record 100 points, pulling off the feat in just 30 games. With his five points from the Virginia game, Young reached 203 career points and became just the third Spider ever to eclipse 200.
Kapp was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 last week and appeared in 68 games during his career, the second-most ever by a Spider. The long-stick midfielder was instrumental on both sides of the field and Richmond's face off unit, where he recorded 13 points while wearing Richmond across his chest with eight goals and five assists. He picked up 102 ground balls and was responsible for 41 caused turnovers — the 10th most in program history.
The duo will begin their PLL careers at UAlbany when training camp opens later this month. The 2024 season's opening weekend at UAlbany's Tom & Mary Casey Stadium is slated for June 1 and 2. Kapp's home team Atlas will play the Boston Cannons Saturday, June 1 at 3:30 p.m., while the Outlaws will play the Carolina Chaos on Sunday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. before the Atlas play again, this time against the Maryland Whipsnakes at 3:30 on June 2.
