Spiders Quartet Attends NIL Summit
06/24/2024 | General, Compliance
ATLANTA — Spider soccer student-athletes Sofia Mancino and Marisa Snee and men's basketball players DeLonnie Hunt and B. Artis White represented Richmond Athletics at the third annual NIL Summit this weekend at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The group was accompanied by Assistant AD for Communications Jason Vida.
The event attracted more than 500 student-athletes over three days, with attendees hearing from panels of leading experts in the areas of branding, corporate partnerships, social media engagement, and more. Participants received tips, strategies, and insight on how to successfully navigate the constantly changing Name, Image, and Likeness landscape.
Hunt developed a better understanding of building successful sponsorship agreements. "I learned how to understand a brand's focus and mission before fully engaging or agreeing to a partnership," Hunt said. "You have to make sure that what that brand provides helps you in terms of what you want from your career and not just focus on the money."
Mancino's interactions with peers who have developed social media-based businesses led to an increased appreciation for the need to be open and accessible in the digital space. "You can't be afraid to put yourself out there on all social media platforms," said Mancino. "You also need to be consistent: posting every day, replying back to followers, and staying engaged with your audience."
At Saturday night's NIL Awards, White and women's basketball grad student Anna Camden were both nominated for Athlete Creator of the Year, giving Richmond one quarter of the nominees in the category, which was ultimately won by Florida Atlantic football player Josh Moore.
The event concluded on Monday afternoon, with panels on financial literacy, personal content creation, and the future of NIL collectives.
