Trippett, Stockman go 1-2 in Collegiate Road Mile National Championship

Winchester, Va. – After competing in the NCAA Track & Field Championships, Madison Trippett and Elizabeth Stockman showcased their talents at the highly anticipated 2024 Collegiate Road Mile National Championship, held in conjunction with the 37th annual Loudoun Street Mile. This prestigious event took place in Winchester, Virginia on Memorial Day, attracting collegiate athletes from across the nation.
Madison Trippett, who recently won the 5,000m at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and placed second in the 1500m behind teammate Elizabeth Stockman, as she faced a competitive field with multiple NCAA All-American performers. Trippett surged powerfully in the final 150 meters, overtaking Spider teammate Stockman and Susanna Sullivan, a member of the 2023 USA World Track & Field Championship team, to win the 2024 Collegiate Road Mile National Championship for the second consecutive year. Her time of 4:36.31 is the second-fastest in event history, while Stockman's runner-up time of 4:42.51 ranks as the fifth-fastest. Trippett's winning time was over five seconds faster than her winning mark from last year.
The Spider men also performed well. Stuart Terrill, fresh off winning the Collegiate Trail Running National Championship and the IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships 10,000m title (29:26), showcased his versatility by finishing fourth in the men's collegiate national championships with a time of 4:11.3. Teammate Jordan Bendura, who placed third in last weekend's Collegiate Trail Running National Championship and 5th in the IC4A 10,000m (29:58) finished sixth with a time of 4:14.7.
The event drew a record-breaking 600 runners to the scenic streets of Old Town Winchester. The point-to-point race course provided a challenging test for participants, enhanced by ideal race day temperatures of 65 degrees.
