RICHMOND, Va — Four members of the Richmond men's golf team were named Cobalt Golf All-American Scholars when the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its annual academic honors Thursday.
Lou Baker, Garrett Clark, Cole Ekert, and Drew Carlin were named All-American Scholars after meeting the program's stringent qualifications:
• Must have played in at least 50 percent of a team's competitive rounds during the season
• Must have posted a stroke average under 76.0
• Must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
• Must have displayed high moral character
Freshmen are not eligible for the award.
2024 is the fourth straight year at least four Spiders have been named All-American Scholars, with five selections in 2023, four in 2022, and a school-record six All-American Scholars in 2021. Prior to 2021, no more than three Richmond golfers had been named All-American Scholars in the same year.
Baker joins former teammate Michael Childress as the only golfers in Richmond history to earn All-American Scholar honors four times. This is Clark's third straight selection to the All-American Scholar Team, Ekert's second straight, and the first for Carlin, who becomes the 19th different Spider to earn All-American Scholar honors.
