Spiders Finish Second on Day 1 of Richmond Duals

HAMPTON, Va. — The University of Richmond swimming and diving team competed in the Richmond Duals at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex on Friday afternoon. Facing Atlantic 10 opponents, the Spiders had 17 top three finishes to place second with 638 points.Â

In the 400 medley relay, Richmond's relay squads finished second and third. Hannah Wieczorek, Gabbie Primiano, Mia Gregory and Erin Budde (relay A) finished second with a time of 3:52.36. Caroline Weldon, Presley Baber, Kaitlyn Martin and Kaitlyn Bauer (relay B) finished third with a time of 3:53.04.

In the 200 free relay, Richmond's A relay finished first. Swimming the relay were Amare, Baber, Krichev and Hughes, finishing at 1:35.58. Relay B finished sixth. Swimming the relay were Primiano, Lydia Sturgeon, Weldon and Wieczorek, finishing at 1:39.47.

In the 400 IM, Lena Amare finished second with a time of 4:24.63. Natalie Stuart finished fourth with a time of 4:35.94.

In the 200 free, Bauer finished third with a time of 1:54.16. MaryAgnes Smith finished fifth with a time of 1:56.72. In the 50 free, two Spiders finished in the three and four spots. Baber (third) finished with a time of 23.97. Julia Krichev (fourth) finished with a time of 24.30. In the 100 free, Krichev finished second with a time of 53.53. Budde followed, finishing fourth with a time of 53.80.

Placing first in the 50 breast, Primiano finished with a time of 29.74. Baber finished closely behind with a time of 29.96, placing second. In the 200 breast, Primiano took home another first-place victory with a time of 2:19.63.

In the 200 fly, Budde finished second with a time of 2:10.51. In the 50 fly, Amare took first with a time of 25.56.

Wieczorek finished second in the 50 back with a time of 26.75. Weldon finished third with a time of 27 flat. In the 200 back, Amare placed second with a time of 2:03.32.

In the distance portion, Bauer finished second with a time of 5:05.49. Stuart finished third with a time of 5:05.62. Carys Edgar finished sixth with a time of 5:15.50.

The Spiders hit the pool tomorrow in a dual meet against Duquesne at 10 a.m. at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex.
