Amare Wins 200 IM on Day 2 of Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Richmond women's swimming and diving competed in the second day of the Patriot Invitational. Richmond turned in several strong performances during Thursday's finals with 10 Spiders advancing to the finals, highlighted by Lena Amare's victory in the 200 IM.

Lena Amare led the Spiders with a first-place finish in the 200 IM, touching in 2:03.08, earning a National Invitational Championship B cut.Â

In the distance portion in the 500 free, Natalie Stuart paced Richmond with a sixth-place finish in 4:56.89. Erin Budde placed 14th in 5:04.08, followed by Carys Edgar in 15th at 5:05.69 and MaryAgnes Smith in 22nd at 5:07.93.

Three Spiders scored in the 50 free. Julia Krichev took 11th in 23.76, Presley Baber finished 16th in 24.11 and Lydia Sturgeon placed 18th in 24.08.

Richmond's A relay of Baber, Sturgeon, Krichev and Caitlyn Hughes finished fifth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:34.84. The B relay of Amare, Budde, Mia Gregory and Hannah Wieczorek followed in eighth at 1:35.42.

On the 3-meter borad Sally Harrington led the Spiders in eighth with 231.10, while Rachel Vandersea finished 10th (226.35) and Addison Grainger 11th (220.30).

Richmond sits third in the team standings with 405 points heading into Friday's events.

The Spiders open Day 3 with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. in the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 1-meter diving. Finals begin at 6 p.m. and will include the 400 IM relay.
