Taylor Welcomes Back Veteran Coach Andre Moore to Track and Field Staff
11/26/2025 | Women's Track & Field
RICHMOND, Va. – Director of Track and Head Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Lori Taylor announced the addition of Andre Moore to the University of Richmond track and field staff as an assistant coach. Moore rejoins the program in November 2025, bringing a distinguished record of collegiate coaching, athletic achievement and proven leadership.
"Steve and I couldn't be more excited to welcome Andre back to the Spider family! His passion, technical expertise, and commitment to developing student-athletes helps us continue the tone of success and excellence," said Taylor. "Andre's history of developing sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers—paired with the leadership and integrity he brings from every chapter of his career—makes his return a huge win for Richmond Track & Field."
Moore's first tenure with the Spiders spanned from 2010 to 2018, during which he was instrumental in coaching sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and the hurdle technique of steeplechase runners. His coaching yielded significant results, including assistance of two 2010 NCAA Division I All-Americans (Andrew Benford and Nicol Traynor), NCAA Championship qualifiers (Janel Frances and Dana Guglielmo) and the development of 30 Atlantic 10 All-Conference performers across indoor and outdoor track and field.
A native of Richmond, Va., Moore is known for his hands-on coaching style, technical expertise and holistic approach to athlete development. His philosophy emphasizes personal discipline, consistency and a commitment to both academic and athletic excellence — values he works to instill in each of his student-athletes.
Before his first tenure at Richmond, Moore built a foundation of leadership and program development across multiple collegiate settings. His career started at Virginia State University (1997–2004) as head cross country and track and field coach and assistant football coach. He later transitioned to Virginia Union University (2005–2009) as head cross country and track and field coach, with a technical focus on jumps, sprints and hurdles. After Richmond, Moore served as head track and field and football coach at Central International College (2019–2021), leading program development and overseeing all facets of athlete training, recruitment and performance.
A former collegiate standout, Moore competed in the 400-meter and 200-meter events and in the long and triple jumps at Norfolk State University, where he studied management and computer information systems. He later earned a bachelor's in religion and religious studies from Central International College.
In addition to his coaching background, Moore brings a strong sense of leadership and community service to Richmond. He has served as a deputy sheriff for more than two decades, first with the Richmond City Sheriff's Office (2005–2018) and most recently with the Petersburg Sheriff's Office (2018–2025). His experience in public safety has reinforced the values of integrity, accountability and mentorship that shape his coaching approach.
Moore's professional development includes Level I Certified Coach and Certified Network Administrator credentials, as well as a long-standing affiliation with the United States Track Coaches Association since 1995. He remains active in professional networks in education, health and fitness to stay current on evolving coaching philosophies and sports science research.
With his return to Richmond, Moore adds significant experience, energy and leadership to the Spiders' track and field staff. His blend of technical knowledge, athlete-first mentorship and professionalism positions him as a key contributor to the team's future success.
