Wise Sets School Record, Wins Long Jump at Liberty Kickoff

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's track and field team opened competition Thursday at the Liberty Kickoff at the Brant Tolsma Track in the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. The day was highlighted by Molly Wise, who set a school record in the long jump.

Wise won the event with a mark of 6.22 meters, breaking her previous program record of 6.15 meters set last January at the Brant Tolsma Invitational at Liberty. With her mark, she is currently ranked No. 2 in the NCAA.Â

Freshman Sydney Phillips made her collegiate debut, finishing third in the second flight with a jump of 5.04 meters and placing 14th overall. She also finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.69 meters.Â

The Spiders return to action Dec. 5 at 10:40 a.m., beginning with the 60-meter hurdles.
