Spiders Fall to Navy, Rathmanner Secures Lone Singles Win

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team fell to Navy 6-1 on Sunday at the Tose Family Tennis Center for its final match of the weekend in Annapolis, Md. With the loss, Richmond dropped to 3-5 on the season after picking up a 5-2 win over Georgetown on Saturday, while Navy improved to 10-5. Sam Rathmanner secured the lone singles victory for Richmond with a straight-set win on court 6.

In doubles, the Spider duo Dylan Atkinson and Otto Sewell defeated Buckingham and Nguyen (Navy) 6-4 on court 3. Navy responded with a 6-4 win on court 1, as Legaspi and Spencer (Navy) defeated Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley. Navy clinched the doubles point with a narrow victory on court 2, where Ayinala and Kim (Navy) pulled ahead of Paxton Pritchard and Rathmanner in a tiebreaker, winning 7-6 (2).

In singles, Richmond picked up its lone point on court 6, where Rathmanner secured a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Buckingham (Navy). Navy claimed the remaining five singles victories, starting on court 2, where Nguyen (Navy) defeated Pritchard 7-5, 6-2. On court 3, Ayinala (Navy) outlasted Atkinson 6-4, 7-6 (4), while Sewell forced a third set on court 4 but ultimately fell short to Spencer (Navy) 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. On court 1, Legaspi (Navy) took down Wiley 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. The final match on court 5 saw a hard-fought battle, with Kim (Navy) overcoming Brashear in a third-set tiebreaker, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (13-11).
