
Polin Leads Spiders on Day 1 at Tar Heel intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Sophomore Quin Polin is the low man on the leaderboard for the Spiders through 36 holes at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. Polin shot rounds of 74 (+4) and 72 (+2) Saturday at Finley Golf Club and is tied for 39th in the field of 81 golfers at 6-over par (146). Polin was 9-over midway through Round 2 Saturday afternoon but rallied for three birdies in his final five holes to card a 72.
Polin was helped by his performance on the par 5s Saturday, shooting a combined 4-under par on those holes, tied for third best of any golfer.
Senior Cole Ekert and Patrick Isztwan also shot 72 (+2) in Round 2, and freshman Carson Baez provided a 4-over 74 to Richmond's team score, bringing the Spiders team total to 585 (+25) with Sunday's final round remaining. UR is in 13th place in the 14-team field, just behind A-10 rivals Davidson (+21) and VCU (+23).
Ekert and Baez are tied for 47th individually at 147 (+7), with sophomore Jack LaPiana two strokes behind in a tie for 60th at 149 (+9). Isztwan is tied for 70th at 151 (+11).
Richmond carded 26 birdies Saturday, tied for seventh among all teams, but managed just 93 pars, second fewest in the field.
Tee times for Sunday's final round will begin at 8:15 AM.
