Five Spiders Take Home Richmond’s First Patriot League Preseason Honors

Bethlehem, Pa. – Ahead of Richmond's inaugural Patriot League season, five Spiders earned Preseason All-League honors, and the team was picked to finish second in the eight-team conference.
Captains and offensive linemen Gabriel Carbajal and Scott Hummel were named All-League Offense alongside tight end Sean Clarke. On defense, linebacker and captain Carter Glassmyer and defensive end Camden Byrd also received All-League recognition.
Carbajal (13 starts) and Hummel (11 starts) appeared in all 13 contests in 2024 where they were a part of an offensive line that helped Richmond average 27.15 points per game as well as 380.4 yards per game while allowing just 16 sacks all season. The duo helped lead the Spiders to fourth in the CAA with 4,945 yards of total offense and second in rushing yards with 2,527.
Clarke contributed both as a blocker and receiver, appearing in 12 games with six starts. He tallied five catches for 38 yards and scored a touchdown in the FCS Playoffs First Round game against Lehigh, while playing a key role in Richmond's offensive unit and blocking game.
Glassmyer, who was recently named a Second Team Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American, enters 2025 as Richmond's leading tackler. Last season, he appeared in 13 games where he recorded a team-leading 87 total tackles, including 53 solo stops, three sacks, and 7.0 tackles for loss, along with three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, and a quarterback hurry on his way to being named Second Team All-CAA.
Byrd played in all 13 games, starting 11 en route to being named Second Team All-CAA. He recorded 45 tackles, including 29 solo. He tallied 8.5 tackles for loss (-57 yards) including seven sacks and added a forced fumble, fumble recovery, five quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.

They were prohibited from voting for their team or student-athletes.
