KINGSTON, R.I. — Morgane Zinn scored early in the second half, and Richmond earned a 1-1 draw at Rhode Island Sunday in an Atlantic 10 women's soccer match at the URI Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Zinn, who missed Thursday's win vs VCU after receiving two yellow cards at Saint Louis on Oct. 17, put Richmond ahead in the 49th minute with her sixth goal of the season. The scoring sequence started when Kingsley Hughes collected a loose ball near midfield and fired a pass ahead to a streaking Zinn, who dribbled a left-footed shot over the goal line. Zinn now has 17 points and six goals this season, and leads Richmond in both categories. Hughes' assist was her fourth of the season, second most among Spiders.
Rhode Island equalized in the 60th minute when Megan Steinbach scored off a pass from Claire O'Neill. The Rams finished with an 8-7 edge in shots and held 62 percent of possession, while Richmond put five shots on goal to Rhode Island's three. Veronica Rrapi made two saves in the first half before yielding to Isabel Seifert in goal at halftime.
Richmond moved to 8-3-6 overall and 3-3-3 in A-10 play, with 12 conference points. The Spiders sit eighth in the standings, level on points with George Washington, as they pursue one of the league's eight tournament spots.
Richmond hosts Fordham Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m. in its final regular-season match. A win would clinch a tournament berth; a draw or loss would leave the Spiders' postseason hopes dependent on other results.
