Burdell Captures A10 Conference Masters Singles Title

DAVIDSON, NC – Richmond's Charlie Burdell captured the men's tennis A10 Conference Masters singles title this weekend, hosted by Davidson College.
With the tournament victory, Burdell will represent the A10 at the NCAA Conference Masters Tournament Nov. 5-8 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
In the opening round of 16, Burdell captured a 6-1, 6-4 win over Duquesne's Aril Kura Tuna. He came out on top in a tough quarterfinal match up over Fordham's Victor Kimpel 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
Burdell got a straight-set victory in the semifinals over VCU's Patrik Petera, 6-3, 6-3 to advance. In the finals, Burdell took the first set 7-5, dropped the second set 6-7 (4-7) and came back to win the third set 7-5 for the title.
Also competing at the A10 Masters, Paxton Pritchard captured an opening round straight-set win over Saint Joseph's Oscar Bumgartner 6-3, 6-1. Pritchard also won in straight sets over VCU's Jakub Volesky 6-4, 7-5. In the semifinals, Pritchard fell 6-4, 7-5 to Davidson's Gregorio Hidalgo.
In doubles action the Richmond pair fell to Duquesne's Arnau Anton Garcia and Gianluca Citadini, 8-5.
