Richmond, Va. — Richmond claimed three of the Patriot League's four weekly awards Monday, as senior quarterback Ashten Snelsire was named Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore punter Ned Gray earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors and freshman safety Caleb Geronomi was selected as Rookie of the Week.
The three honors come after Richmond's 40-31 comeback victory at Lafayette, a win that kept the Spiders unbeaten in Patriot League play and moved the team to 5-1 on the season.
Snelsire completed 24-of-38 passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns while adding a career-high 69 rushing yards and a score on the ground. Richmond trailed by as many as 17 points before Snelsire helped spark the comeback, rushing for a touchdown with three seconds remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to seven.
The Berlin, Md., native then threw touchdown passes in both the third and fourth quarters as Richmond put together a 31-0 scoring run to take control of the game.
Gray averaged 46.8 yards on four punts, with two landing inside the Lafayette 20-yard line. His biggest punt came late in the fourth quarter, when he delivered a career-long 65-yarder that pinned the Leopards at their own 2-yard line with 1:43 remaining.
Two plays later, Camden Byrd recorded a game-sealing safety to give Richmond its final 40-31 margin. Gray leads the Patriot League with a 44.7-yard punting average this season.
Geronomi finished with six tackles, an interception and a pass breakup against Lafayette. The Lexington, S.C., native recorded the first interception of his collegiate career on Lafayette's second possession of the game.
Through five games, Geronomi ranks fifth in the Patriot League with five pass breakups.
Richmond returns to the road Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Spiders travel to the Bronx to take on Fordham at 3:30 p.m.
