Football Adds Three During February Signing Period Presented By Owen and Owens

Richmond, Va. – University of Richmond head football coach Russ Huesman announced three new additions to the Spiders' 2026 signing class on Wednesday as part of National Signing Day's February Signing Period. These student-athletes will enroll at Richmond as freshmen in the fall of 2026. Richmond's signing day is presented by Owen and Owens.
The February signees include running back Ronald Johnson, linebacker Anton Carter Jr., and defensive back Matthew Jones.
Johnson, a 5-11, 193-pound product of Bryans Road, Md., comes to Richmond from Lackey High School where he earned All-State recognition, was a two-time All-Region selection, and was named First Team all-conference. As a senior, he rushed for 1,720 yards and 22 touchdowns, while also adding 109 receiving yards on five catches.
Anton Carter Jr., previously committed to William & Mary, played his high school football at Nottoway High School in Crewe, Va., located approximately one hour southwest of Richmond. Over the course of his prep career, Carter recorded 200 tackles, including 50 tackles for loss, along with 45 sacks and 12 interceptions.
Matthew Jones, a 6-2, 210-pound defensive back previously committed to James Madison, attends The Haverford School in Haverford, Pa. During his high school career, he totaled 158 tackles and four interceptions. Jones is the son of Isaac Jones, who played college football at Purdue and later signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 1999.
