Spiders Earn A-10 Road Sweep at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team earned a 4-0 victory over Davidson Saturday afternoon at the Davidson Tennis Courts. With the win, the Spiders improve to 6-6 on the spring season and even their Atlantic 10 record at 1-1, while the Wildcats fall to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the A-10. The victory also extends Richmond's winning streak to three matches and marks the Spiders' fourth straight win over Davidson.
How It Happened
Richmond opened the afternoon by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Charlie Burdell and Otto Sewell started the action with a 6-2 victory over Kai Villagomez and Nikhil Mukherjee at No. 3 doubles to give the Spiders early momentum. Davidson evened doubles play with a 6-3 decision on court two, where Daniel Cowan Jr. and Gregorio Hidalgo defeated Paxton Pritchard and Sam Rathmanner.
The doubles point came down to the top spot, where Cole Brashear and Davis Wiley battled to a 7-6 (7-5) victory over Davide Procacci and Sebastian Carpio to secure the early 1-0 Richmond lead.
The Spiders carried that momentum into singles play, quickly closing out the match with three straight-set victories. Pritchard extended the lead with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Villagomez on court three. Burdell followed with a 6-3, 6-3 decision against Procacci at No. 2 singles.
Wiley clinched the match for Richmond with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Hidalgo at the top spot to secure the 4-0 result. Three remaining matches on courts four, five and six were left unfinished.
